Meet the Neighbors with Suchi Modi

Suchi Modi

Welcome to another fun segment of “Meet the Neighbors”!  Each week we highlight a different food blogger and let you meet him or her, and enjoy some new recipes.  Today’s awesome food blogger is Suchi Modi, who blogs over at Elegant Meraki.  I really enjoyed meeting Suchi and drooling over her beautiful food styling and photography.  Look at that Triple Chocolate Mousse cake.  Seriously.  Couldn’t you just reach through the screen and take a bite?  Yuuummmmmmmm.

You can find Suchi on her blog, here, as well as on Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram, and Yummly. So what are we waiting for? Let’s meet her!  I know you will enjoy visiting with Suchi as much as I did! 🙂

Suchi Modi

What is your name, and where are you located?

Hey all, I am Suchi from Motor City– well Detroit, Michigan for everyone.

Tell us a little bit about yourself– what is the name of your blog, and how did you get started?

My blog is called Elegant Meraki. I started this blog to learn food photography and learn basic baking but expanded into recipe creations too. Like the word Meraki, I put my heart and soul into creating the recipes or photographs you see on my blog.

What is your favorite food? And what is your least favorite food?

Well, from the blog you can tell I love baked goods! I especially like Tarts and Eastern European Pastries. Anything with brussel sprouts is off my plate!

What advice would you give someone who is just starting to cook/bake?

Read, read, and read the recipe. When making it for the first time just follow everything to the T. Pay attention to small details like mix vs fold. Learn these basics and you will be rewarded with perfectly baked goods.

What keeps you going, every day? Who are your greatest cheerleaders/supporters?

I will let out a secret here; for me, baking is like that feeling when you are in love. So you can say it’s like a little affair going on! My best friend Anupa is the reason I have this blog; she is my support system, whether it be for my recipe ideas or photos. And she is a wonderful editor for anything I write! Of course my husband, Jay, also stays patient while I photograph his food!

Suchi Modi Black Pepper Rose Puff Loaf

Suchi was kind enough to share her delicious recipe for Black Pepper Rose Puff Loaf with us.  I don’t know about you, but I think this is one of the most beautiful food photos I have ever seen.  And I can’t wait to try this recipe!  Suchi tells us:

“I love to add spices to recipes where anyone would least expect, like in this Danish pastry. My inspirations can come from my own spice box, places I travel, cookbooks, and other people’s holiday food.”

Thanks so much for spending time with us, Suchi!  I really loved meeting you and can’t wait to see more of your delicious recipes! 🙂
